The
Ashiko is a traditional west African drum that is often played in the Djembe
circles. Ashikos sound very much like Djembes, except they might have
a little more high note and a little less bass. Ashikos are a great choice
for the Djembe player who wants something different. For the beginner
or expert who wants a smaller drum, the 10.5 by 21" ashikos are lighter
and more portable that a full sized drum. They are fine looking drums
that sound great.
Spirit in the Wood Ashikos are made with stave construction, that means they
are built from separate pieces of wood like a barrel. All of the wood
is hand selected and cut with precision for a perfect fit and the best sound.
They are sanded round and finished with our standard oil-wax finish. Spirit
in the Wood Ashikos are rope tuned in the traditional way and skinned with the
same shaved goat skin as our Djembes.
