An Udu is an ancient Nigerian drum usually made from pottery.  The word Udu means both pottery and peace in the Ibo tongue of Nigeria.  Udus have a resonating chamber with two holes.   They are played by striking the holes with the open hand, your hand forms the drum skin.  They have a deep haunting resonance believed by some to be the voice of the ancestors.   The Spirit in the Wood Udu is made from a single piece of wood.  Each Udu comes with a stand, the doughnut of wood in the picture.
